GEERing Up! at the Pulp and Paper Centre

This summer, Grade 2-3 students with the GEERing Up! science and engineering summer camp have been visiting the papermaking lab on Wednesdays for some hands-on papermaking experience. Each student, after learning about the papermaking process, gets to make their very own handcrafted paper sheet. During the paper forming process natural decorations are inserted for a unique and beautiful finished product to take home.

Nici outlines the steps to make paper. This method, using a handheld screen with a wooden frame, is an ancient  technology.

A newly formed sheet of paper, ready to be dried. Decorations like leaves and flowers can be added for visual appeal.

Thanks go out to all the students and staff who are leading these tours. It has been great fun so far for all involved!
